Honey bees perform about 80% of pollination worldwide. A single bee
colony can pollinate 300 million fl owers per day.
Pollination is the fi rst step in the process of sexual reproduction in plants. It
is the act of transferring ‘pollen grains’ from the male anther (the part of a
stamen that contains the pollen) of a fl ower to the female stigma, enabling
fertilization (it germinates and fertilizes the ovule) and development of seeds
and fruit. All of these steps must occur for a seed to develop.
Bees are attracted to fl owers for its sugar rich liquid nectar and protein,
vitamins and lipid rich item pollen (Bees are attracted to fl owers for its liquid
nectar, rich in sugar and protein and its pollen rich in vitamins and lipids),
while gathering those from one fl ower to another they transfer pollen grains
from male part of the fl ower - called anther - to female part of the fl ower
- called stigma - (either in the same fl ower or in a diff erent one) enabling
thereby fertilization and reproduction. Fertilization allows the fl ower to
develop seeds and fruits.
Bees pack pollen in between their legs (pollen basket). � e pollen packed
on the bees legs are not available for pollination. � e pollen grains gathered
around its hair and body parts get transferred to other fl owers during visits to
female fl ower. Collection of pollen usually ends by afternoon, while nectar
collection generally continues for a longer period.
Worldwide bee colony collapse is not as big a mystery as the chemical
industry claims (� e global collapse of bee colonies is not a big mystery as
the chemical industry claims). In the last years, the chemical industry spent
$11.2 million on PR initiative to say it is not their fault, so we know whose
fault it is.
Common sense actions can restore and protect the world’s bees. Here is a
strong start:
Ban the seven most dangerous pesticides: Chlorpyrifos-methyl (Dursban,
Lorsban), dicrotophos (Bidrin, Diapadrin), dimethoate, ethoprop, profenofos,
terbufos and tribufos.
Protect pollinator health by preserving wild habitat.
Restore ecological agriculture.
Be the solution to help protecting bees in crisis. Save the bees, save us all.

One of the issues that concern young people is choosing a career. For some, it may be
easy, since they are very clear about what they want to do and what they want to achieve
in life. Others may have several options, without being able to determine which is the most
appropriate because they are afraid of making a mistake.
Choosing a career is a process that involves knowing yourself, which makes it easier to know
what you want and what to expect in your professional life.
What do you need to know about yourself in order to make this decision?
� e fi rst thing you need to consider involves your professional interests. If you know what
you like, then you can focus and take advantage of it.
Skills or aptitudes. � is refers to what you are good at, something for which you have a
natural talent.
Personality. � e way you are infl uenced by what you like and want to do, as well as the
development of your abilities.
Choosing a career or profession means we are choosing a lifestyle.
Studying a career is part of our life project. Choosing a career will contribute to achieving
both our professional and personal goals, which is why it is important to focus our attention
on this process. � at will allow us to make up our mind based on responsibility and interest,
instead of making the decision feeling anguish or fear. � ere are two factors we should take
into consideration:
● Internal factors
� e identifi cation of personal tastes, as well as the skills or abilities to
perform in an area.
● External factors
Related to the environment in which the student develops, consisting of
social, economic, and cultural structures.
