deben reforzar el manejo interdisciplinario de sus pacientes tanto
a nivel preventivo como terapéutico para minimizar el deterioro
de su sistema masticatorio y con ello de su calidad de vida en el
envejecimiento.

SUMMARY
The professional dental practice represents a great responsibility
for the fact of influencing the oral and general health of the
patients, acquiring throughout the years the conservation of the
largest possible number of dental organs in order to meet the
needs of all kinds in which these are involved.
Objective- To demonstrate the need of the integration of oral
and periodontal care as an important part of a healthy lifestyle by
favoring the preservation of the largest number of dental organs.
Material and Method.- The bibliographic search of 19 original
articles was carried out, 18 of them from 2014 to date and one
from 2013, which was included given its relevance in the subject.
Concepts such as oral health, aging, quality of life and edentulism
were considered.
Results and Discussion- There are factors related to moderate
to poor general health status, one of these is edentulism, so
the integration of oral care in preventive and therapeutic health
programs is more essential over the years. .
Conclusions- Currently, the relationship between oral health
and general health is unquestionable, so both Dentists and
Physicians must reinforce the interdisciplinary management of
their patients both at a preventive and therapeutic level to minimize
the deterioration of their masticatory system and thereby their
quality of life in aging.
